Mawlid Sidi Abul Hassan Al-Shazly

By Christian Suhr

I miss the warmth of standing close together, I miss the thundering sound, I miss the colored lamps, I miss the chanting, I miss the tuktuk, I miss sleeping on the pavement, I miss the burning sun, I almost miss the dehydration and the diarrhea, I miss these people, and I miss the strange thing called fieldwork.

I hope to return when the world has recovered from COVID-19. These moments were filmed during a hadra-ritual late at night last August in the desert of South-East Egypt.
